I don't see it as a mistake, but it sure can get messy, specially for costumers. Why? We'll have 3 options with almost the same capabilities. One will try to outshine others with premium 1st party devs support, the other with PC exclusives and the 720... with kinect

I'm still wondering why Valve didn't ally with current console makers. I guess none of them get to the price. Anyway, my wallet regrets the idea of buying an extra piece of hardware to enjoy Steam.
Good article overall but autor totally missed all the pros that Sony has to be a good contender for the Next Gen... I have strong faith in Gaikai and PSN services overall. Not to mention all the first party developers ready to launch their games into the next PS.
